A Funeral Mass for Catherine Ann "Kitty" Bond, 90, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. JCP Sullivan as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends and family may call from 12:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 20, 2016 , at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark. A prayer vigil and time of sharing will be held at 2:30 p.m.

Catherine, "Kitty" Bond, was born in Norfolk County, Virginia on Wednesday, September 4, 1926 to Lylan Mary and Cody Emanuel Wroten, their only child. She passed away on Wednesday, November 16 at home with her children by her side.

Catherine was a graduate of Julianne High School in Dayton, Ohio where she was May Queen.

Catherine had 6 children, 4 of whom are still living: Elain Summers of Atoka, TN, Judy (Jeff) Holton of Shawnee, KS, Mike Bond and Laura Clark both of Newark, Ohio. Catherine was preceded in death by two daughters: Terry Bond and Stephanie Eppley, both of Newark, Ohio and one son-in-law, Marshall Clark also of Newark. Catherine had numerous grand and great grandchildren, many of whom have wonderful, warm memories of times spent with her.


In her early years, Catherine was an avid bowler and golfer. Throughout her life, she also played the piano, created beautiful ceramic pieces, knitted, crocheted, and did needlework. She loved to laugh, have fun, work puzzles and play cards. Catherine was a wonderful seamstress and made clothes for her 6 children when they were younger. She was an avid reader, transitioning to listening to books on tape when macular degeneration drastically altered her sight.

Catherine loved the Lord. She was a mother of 6 but was also a "pseudo-mother" to so very many more. Her doors were always open and she didn't know a stranger. She shared her home, love and meals with those in need. Her house became a second home to many, including servicemen from the Newark Air Force Station. She invited them to hang out on weekends with her and her kids, making the servicemen feel welcome, providing them a home away from home.

Catherine retired as a Computer Programmer from Newark Air Force Station. Catherine was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, a former Docent at Dawes Arboretum and she worked to serve the needs of many veterans at the Licking County VVA after her retirement from the Newark Air Force Base. Catherine was also a past member of the Toastmistress Club and the Licking County Aging Program.
