Obituary

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Carmella Sylvia Guinta, 95, of Newark, will be held at The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 28, 2023, with Rev. JCP Sullivan as celebrant and Fr. Anthony Lonzo as concelebrant. Interment will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

Carmella died at Licking Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.  She was born in Staten Island, New York on November 15, 1928, to the late Angelo and Louise (DiBelli) Abbruzzi.

A longtime parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Carmella was devoted to her faith and family. She was a homemaker by heart and took great joy in cooking for her family, especially homemade bread and pizzas for Friday nights, family Sunday pasta dinners, and home cut French fries and special soups when someone was under the weather. She also like to crochet and work with ceramics.

Carmella loved her family and will be greatly missed by her children, Salvatore Guinta Jr., Donna Williams, Jim (Julie) Guinta, Frank (Antoinette) Guinta, Joseph Guinta (fiancée, Jenny Stickle), and Chris (Don) Smythe; son-in-law, Richard Barron; 17 grandchildren, Ann Marie (Billy) Porter, Amy Copeland, Tony (Kellie) Guinta, Noah (Britaney) Guinta, Rodney (Julianne) Barron, Jason Barron, Josh (Jen) Barron, Chad Williams, Gina (Craig) Burdick, Ginger (Ben) Howe, Jenny (Brian) Zimmerman, Tyler (Olivia) Darling, Tony J. S. (Kayla) Guinta, Justin (Ashley) Smythe, Corey Smythe, Ashley Smythe, and Tiffany Smythe; 19 great-grandchildren (plus 3 more on the way), Eric and Matt Porter, Natalie and Jacob Leone, Ethan Schedneck, River Lynn Guinta, Katelynn, Colton, Sydney, and Dane Barron, Austin Weekley, Scott Humphrey, Caden and Maria Burdick, Jacob (Maddie) Lampron, Ella Howe, Ty Greene, Brinley Zimmerman, and Emrynn Smythe;  1 great-great-grandchild, Everett Barron; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Carmella was preceded in death by her husband, Salvatore S. Guinta Sr.; daughter Camille Barron; grandson, Levi Guinta; 5 brothers, August, Anthony, Patrick, Michael, and Joseph; 2 sisters, Angela and Ursula; and 2 infant twin siblings.

Friends and family may call from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M, Monday, November 27, 2023, at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, with a Rosary Service held at 8:30 P.M.
