Carmelia V. Rizzo, age 98, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at the residence, in Newark, OH. Member of The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Newark, OH.

Carmelia came to the United States from Italy at the age of 8 years old, arriving at Ellis Island on March 24, 1925, with her parents, Guiseppa Martino Varrasso and Dominic Varrasso, who have preceded her in death. She became a U.S. Citizen in 1929. Growing up she worked with her parents at Weiants Greenhouse and she married Christy Rizzo in 1943.

Carmelia Attended 3B School of Beauty and became a licensed hairdresser and also attended Newark College of Business. She retired after 49 years of service with R.H. Penick Oil, Gas and Brine Company, at the age of 89 years. Surviving are her son: David C. (Yoko) Rizzo; grandchildren: Tracy (Brad) Downs, of Newark, OH and Christine Union, of Pickerington, OH; great-grandchildren: Erika and Christian Downs, Victoria and Brandi Union; several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 14, 2015 at The Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 394 E. Main Street, Newark, OH. Rev. Fr. Jonathan F. Wilson, celebrant. Prayer Service 7:30 P.M., Friday, February 13, 2014, Deacon Patrick Wilson presiding. Interment will be at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Newark, OH.
