Calling hours celebrating the life Bill (Charles W.) Braunbeck, 73, of Newark, will be held at the REED EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, from 2-5 P.M., Sunday, December 10, 2017.  Inurnment services will be held at a later date at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.

Bill, as he preferred to be known and would never answer to Charles, died suddenly at his home on Monday, December 4, 2017, after a long, hard fought battle with several medical conditions that just got the best of him.  He was born in Newark, Ohio on December 1, 1944 to the late Joseph L. Sr. and Edna M. (Diehl) Braunbeck.

Bill grew up in the old West Locust Street area where he had a paper route and mowed lawns in the neighborhood as a young boy.  It was amazing how the neighbors would recognize him in later years as their former paper boy.

He worked for Owens Corning Fiberglas for 38 years before retiring in December 2001.  He then worked as a courier for the Park National Bank before retiring once again in 2014.  During his years at Owens Corning, Bill took great pride in his involvement with the GMP Local Union 244, serving a 3 year term as Chairman, 3 terms as a Zone Committeeman and was a member of the negotiating committee.  Bill was also a Union Steward for many years and often remarked on how honored he was to have served his fellow Union members who were such a pleasure to work with, especially Pete Jacks.

Bill was a 1962 graduate of Newark Catholic High School and charter member and co-founder of the Mound City Corvette Club.  He was also proud to have been a Scout master for the BSA Troop 4 for many years.

Bill and Shirley's recreation time and eventually their retirement hide-away, was the Lazy River at Granville Campground.  Whether snow, rain, heat or cold, they were camping from April to November.  Many great friends were made over the 23 years they stayed there, and at the end of each season they left with a new list of phone numbers and contacts.  The last few years were especially hard on Bill, but the campers came to him to visit and talk about activities at the campsite.  The Kasper family became a family to them.

Bill is survived by his wife of almost 52 years, Shirley Ann (Myers) Braunbeck; daughter, Jill Lynn Braunbeck-Richey; son, Chad Wesley Braunbeck, who returned home from Colorado a year ago to help care for his dad; his 3 grandchildren, Benjamin Jaymes Richey, Ashlynn Brooke Richey, and Katelynn Nicole Hottle; his sisters, Mary L. Talbott, Margaret A. "Peggie" (Skip) Johnson; sister-in-law, Sylvia Welsh Braunbeck; and mother-in-law, Virginia Edwards Myers.  Bill is also survived by his fur-baby rescue cats that he spoiled rotten, Lucy, Alexander, Stormie, Jackie, Joey, Jennie, and his latest grand cat, Aldo, who Bill was never quite able to win over.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Frank H. and Mary V. (Smith) Braunbeck; brother, Joseph L. "Sonny" Braunbeck Jr.; his sister, Lucille "Boots" (Braunbeck) Holland-Carpenter; and father-in-law, Donald W. Myers.

The family requests that memorials in Bill's name be made to the Licking County Humane Society, 825 Thornwood Drive, Heath, Ohio 43056.
