Obituary

A Funeral Mass for Barbara Joan Heffley, 73, of Heath, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 5, 2016 with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest as celebrant. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon in the Lamy Center of St. Francis Johnson Hall immediately following the Mass.

Barb, a 1960 graduate of Newark Catholic High School, died at her home on Tuesday, June 28, 2016. She was born in Caldwell, Ohio on February 5, 1943 to Elvira (Hill) Schell of Heath, and the late Clarence W. Schell.

She was a 1956 graduate of St. Francis de Sales, where she remained a devoted parishioner, volunteer and met and enjoyed so many wonderful friends through the years. She drove bus for Newark City Schools, first for Starlight, then the St. Francis route on Bus #7 for her five children and the rest of the kids she loved. Her cooking and baking skills were incredible. Countless people enjoyed her goodies when she was a baker at the Granville Inn. She was named an Honorary Eagle Scout for her cooking at Camp Falling Rock, with her great friend, Sally. She shared her talents with her brother, Clair Schell, at his State Farm Insurance Agency, as well as Newark Catholic High School.

Barb was an avid gardener, blessing us all with her extensive knowledge of flowers and plants. She had a natural talent and affection for animals, especially her cats. Her flair for design and decoration were known to all who visited her home. Her art is embodied in hundreds of cross stitch patterns that she has created for us all to cherish. She will be missed by so many because of her great love and joy in life.

In addition to her mother, Barb is survived by her husband of 56 years, Douglas M. Heffley; her children and their spouses, Michelle (Larry) Daniels, Lorie Heffley, Joan Torres, Babette (Kevin) Lewis, and Chad Heffley; grandchildren, Alyssa (Jake) Denuit, Samantha (Chaz) Millfelt, Alexandra (Brock) Sanders, Olivia Daniels, Nicole Lewis, Judson Lewis, Cameron Lewis, Jacqueline Parero, Sylvia Heffley, and Ava Heffley; great-grandson, Briar Denuit; her siblings, Clair (Julie) Schell, Charles (Gail) Schell, Mark Schell (Lynette White), Monica Stell, Stephen (Susie) Schell, Anne Schell, and Michael (Cathy) Schell; her sisters-in-law, Barbara Schell, Mary Jane Schell, and Jane Schell; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Daniel, Gregory, and David Schell.
