Funeral services celebrating the life of August Gualtieri, 99, of Newark, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 13, 2017 with Deacon Patrick Wilson as celebrant. Inurnment with military honors will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at a later date.
August, a parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, died at Arlington Care Center on Friday, September 8, 2017. He was born in Flushing, Ohio on May 6, 1918 to the late Antonio and Balbina (Lucci) Gualtieri.
August proudly served with the United States Army during WWII, active in the Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns. He was recipient of the American Defense Service Medal, American Theater Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
A kind man devoted to his faith and family, August was retired from Roper Corporation where he worked in assembly for many years. He was also known to many as the handyman that could repair anything.
He is survived by his children, Robert (Mary Ann) Gualtieri, Brenda (Neil) Parrish, and Mary Beth (Lee) Ludholtz; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Esther Wright; many special friends; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, August was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma (Stalter) Gualtieri; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Friends and family may call at the funeral home 4-6 P.M., Tuesday, September 12, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 394 E. Main Street, Newark, OH 43055; Licking County Animal Shelter, 544 Dog Leg Road, Heath, OH 43056; or Licking County Aging Program, 1058 E. Main Street, Newark, OH 43055.
