A Mass of Christian Burial for Anthony (Tony) Dominic Montagnese, 95, of Newark, Ohio, will be held at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament, 10:30 A.M., Saturday, September 17, 2022, with Fr. Anthony Lonzo as celebrant. Inurnment will be held later that day at 2 P.M. in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.

Tony, a United States Army WWII Veteran, died at SharonBrooke Assisted Living Center on Thursday, September 1, 2022.  He was born in Creekside, Pennsylvania on August 27, 1927, to the late Raffaele and Lucy (Seriani) Montagnese.

As a young student, Tony excelled in school and earned his Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. Early in his career Tony worked with Westinghouse, Schick, and was the founder and operator of Ramont Wholesale Jewelry. He eventually retired from LICCO Industries of Newark.  It was his early sales career that took him to Traverse City, Michigan, where he met the love of his life, Sharon.

Devoted to his faith, Tony was a longtime active parishioner of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, participated in Adoration, and was a founding member of the Bereavement Committee.

Tony was also devoted to his local community, serving many years as an elected member of the Licking Valley School Board.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Sharon (Gravlin) Montagnese, children, Anthony (Dr. Elizabeth) Montagnese Jr., Michele Deremo, and Robert (Lauren) Montagnese; son-in-law, Kenneth Kleemeier; 10 grandchildren, Ben, Samuel, Dominic (Chelsea), Cara (Ray), Anna, Leah, Raffaele, Ashley, Robert Anthony, and Brady; 2 great-grandchildren, Rachel and Amy; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his daughter, Renee Kleemeier; sister, Elizabeth (James) Geiger, and brother, Joseph (Loretta) Montagnese.

Tony's life was a full and happy one, where his family was his joy.  He left a lasting impression on all he met by being a caring listener and by injecting humor and fun into every encounter.  Outside of family, Tony's passions included rooting for the Michigan Wolverines and all Detroit sports teams, Italian food, classical music, and, most of all, showering love and joy on his grandchildren.  He exuded pride in his family like a beacon of light.

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-6 P.M., Friday, where a Vigil and Rosary Service will be held at 6 P.M.
