A Mass of Christian Burial for Alvena Marie Wilson, 97, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 1, 2024, with Fr. Peter Claver as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.

Alvena died at her home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Saturday, July 27, 2024. She was born in Newark, Ohio on June 9, 1927, to the late Harry B. and Lena M. (Wildeboer) Schroeder.

A 1945 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School, Alvena worked for a period of time as a nurse aide at the County Home. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Church where she volunteered as a Eucharistic Adorer.

She will be greatly missed by her children, Larry (Shelley) Wilson, Linda (Bud, dec.) Hoy, Tom Wilson, Pam (John) Lanning, and Theresa (Tim) Franks; daughter-in-law, Gina Wilson; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Alvena was preceded in death by her sons, Robert Alan Wilson, Donald Patrick Wilson, and David Michael Wilson; an infant daughter; her former husband, Earl Wilson Jr., son-in-law, Bud Hoy; brother, Norman (Louise) Schroeder; and sister, Helen (Bob) Truex.

Friends and family may call at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 4-6 P.M., Wednesday, July 31, 2024, with a Vigil Service held at 6:00 P.M.
