A Funeral Mass for Alexander Rolletta Jr., 84, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10:30 AM, Friday May 8, 2015, with Rev. JCP Sullivan, Parish Priest as celebrant. Inurnment will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 11, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Alexander passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015. He was born to Italian immigrant parents, the late Alexander and Florence (Toti) Rolletta in Rome, New York, on March 21, 1931. He graduated from Rome Free Academy and served in the New York State Guard. He married his high school sweetheart, Lois Johnson, on August 4, 1951 at St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church in Rome, New York. He is a long time member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Newark, Ohio.
Alex was a 1951 graduate of Bryant College, Providence, RI and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1966 with a B.S. in Business Administration. He received an M.A. in business from Central Michigan University in 1974. Alex was a CPA with the firm of Wilson, Shannon and Oberfield, in Newark, prior to becoming an instructor of business technologies in 1971 at Central Ohio Technical College. He taught business courses in accounting, auditing and taxation for 23 years at COTC and OSU-Newark. Upon retirement, he maintained his own CPA practice. He was a member of the American Institute of C.P.A.'s, the Ohio Society of C.P.A.'s, and the American Accounting Association. After retiring, he taught part time for 3 years at Denison University in Granville. He was the 1976-77 recipient of the COTC Teaching Excellence Award and the recipient of the Legends of Loyalty award from COTC in 2011 for his dedication to its mission over the years.
Alex and Lois loved traveling the country in their camping van during summers. They also traveled overseas several times, including a 50th Wedding Anniversary trip to Italy. Following retirement they enjoyed springs and falls at Myrtle Beach with the many friends that they met there.
Alex touched the lives of thousands in the Newark community through his teaching and his support of Newark Catholic High School and the Newark Catholic High School Foundation. He enjoyed sports and was staunchly loyal to his favorite teams, Notre Dame and The Ohio State Buckeyes. He will be fondly missed by his family and by his special friends at St. Francis, the Granville Tennis Club, the India Oak Senior Men's Softball team, and his Thursday night card club.
Alex is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Lois; son, Alex Rolletta III (Bonnie) of Newark; daughter, Sandra Rolletta of Dublin, Ohio; grandson, Alex Rolletta IV of Newark; brother, Vincent M. Rolletta and Ann Dygert of Stuart, FL; sister-in-law, Karen Fiaschetti (Vincent) of Riverside, California; nieces and nephews, Jason, Shannon and Nathan of Riverside, California; niece, Suzanne Tinkler (Stuart) of Orlando, FL, and nephew, Stuart Church (Jessie) of Toronto, Ontario; nephews Christopher Rolletta of San Francisco, CA, and Matthew Rolletta (Muriel) of Los Angeles, CA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret R. Healey and Lucille Church.
Friends and family may call from 2-4 and 5-8 P.M., Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark. A prayer vigil will be held at 7:30 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made to the Alex and Lois J. Rolletta-COTC Scholarship Fund.
