Albert D. "Sonny" Devito, Jr.'s Obituary
Funeral services for Albert D. DeVito Jr., 78, of Heath, will be held at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, 10 A.M., Saturday, May 23, 2015, with Rev. William Hritsko as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.
Albert passed away at The OSU Wexner Medical Center on Sunday, May 17, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born in Newark, Ohio on June 15, 1936 to the late Albert D. Sr. and Mary L. (Danese) DeVito.
Albert enlisted with the United States Air Force at the age of 17 to become an air traffic controller and served for 9 years. He continued his career with the Federal Aviation Administration for 19 years thereafter. He completed his government service as a GS15 for the Defense Supply Center of Columbus.
He was a member of the Italian American Veterans and the Professional Air Traffic Controllers Organization. As opposed to a "jack of all trades and master of none", Dino was a "master of all trades". He was always willing to help friends and family in their everyday lives and their hours of most need. He loved traveling, working with his hands, motorcycling, the great outdoors, and, most of all, feeding the deer in his backyard.
Albert is survived by his children, Michael J. (Lisa) DeVito of Annapolis, Maryland, Craig S. (Chastity) DeVito of Houston, Texas, and Tina M. (David) Lucido of Austintown; his grandchildren, Nicole (Mark) Floro and Heather Dorinski; step-grandchildren, Dominic, Makenzie, and Rhett Mori, and Olivia Landon; step-great-grandson, Louis Hickman; his loving companion of 18 years, Shirley Kale of St. Louisville and her family; his brother Fred DeVito (Vicki Corson) of Heath; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Albert was preceded in death by his brother, William B. DeVito.
Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 4-7 P.M., Friday, May 22, 2015.
The family requests memorials to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Brain and Spine Care Program.
