A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph P. Heist, 75, of Alexandria, will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, Granville, Ohio, 11:00 A.M., Monday, November 26, 2012 with Msgr. Paul Enke celebrating. Interment will be held at a later date in Hagans Cemetery, Langley Kentucky.
Mr. Heist, a parishioner of St. Edward's, died at his home on Wednesday, November 21, 2012. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on September 23, 1937 to the late Elmer and Jane (Fox) Heist.
He was a graduate of St. Xavier High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Physics from Thomas Moore College, and his Masters in Mechanical Engineering from George Washington University. Joseph worked at the Owens Corning Fiberglass Technical Center and was retired from the Newark Air Force Base where he worked in Metrology for over 30 years.
Joseph was a man of great faith and was very devoted to his family. He enjoyed woodworking, tending the livestock on his farm, and had a lifelong passion for history, reading and horses. Over the years he served on the Newark Catholic School Board, Diocese of Columbus School Board, was a religious education teacher at St. Edward Catholic Church, and was a 4-H Advisor.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jane (Clark) Heist, of the home; his children and their spouses, Steve and Sheila Heist of Heath, Julie and Jay Goletz of Newark, Betsy and Jim Brown of Coshocton, Amy and Tim Forrest of West Jefferson, and Sarah and Kale Moberg of Alexandria; his 10 grandchildren, Savannah Brown, Rebecca Goletz, Georgia Brown, Shannon Heist, Cody Joe Forrest, Colton Forrest, Shelby Heist, and Leah, Peter, and Warren Moberg; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Bernie Heist of Erlanger, KY, Jerry and Maja Heist of Ft. Mitchell, KY, Elmer and Robin Heist of Lexington, KY, and Mark and Dianne Heist of Eubanks, KY; his sister and brother-in-law, Cathy and John Kennedy of Manchester, KY; brother-in-law, George Jenkins of Walton, KY; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Joseph was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janie; and his sister, Mary Jane Jenkins.
Friends and family may call from 6-8 P.M., Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the REED-EGAN FUNERAL HOME, 141 Green Wave Drive, Newark, where a Vigil Service will be held at 6 P.M.
